Syrinx Journey Day 58: “Syrinx” at Dolce Suono Ensemble’s “Debussy and Jazz”

This afternoon we opened the Dolce Suono Ensemble Presents 2012-2013 season at home in Philadelphia with “Debussy and Jazz,” featuring Matthew Levy, saxophone and composer, as guest artist. We performed works by Debussy, Charles Koechlin, Jelly Roll Morton, Fixel and Grosner, Claude Bolling, and world premieres by Matthew Levy. The Debussy works were the Rapsody for Saxophone and Piano, Golliwog’s Cakewalk from “Children’s Corner,” and of course I performed Syrinx. Our ensemble members included Charles Abramovic, piano and Gabriel Globus-Hoenich, percussion. I gained yet another persepctive on Syrinx playing it in the context of this program.
