Bonus “Syrinx” #8 – Backstage at the Kimmel Center

I recorded Syrinx in my dressing room at the Kimmel Center in between giving masterclasses as Yamaha Flute Clinician at the Youth Education in the Arts band festival in May. It was fun working with lots of talented high school musicians. Visit my Facebook page to see photos from this event!

Syrinx Journey Day 178: “Syrinx” in the Kimmel Center Green Room

I recorded Syrinx in the Green Room at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts after an event I did there today. Behind me is a portrait of Wolfgang Sawallisch, Music Director of The Philadelphia Orchestra from 1993-2003. The first time my teacher Jeffrey Khaner, principal flute of The Philadelphia Orchestra, had me play substitute flute in the Orchestra, when I was fifteen, it was for Brahms’s Ein Deutsches Requiem with Maestro Sawallisch and Dawn Upshaw and Thomas Hampson as soloists. It was an unforgettable experience! I later performed with Maestro Sawallisch as soloist with the Orchestra as a winner of its competition.

Syrinx Journey Day 93: Rendell Room, The Kimmel Center

Minutes earlier, this room was filled to capacity, with people standing along the walls, while I was giving the final PreConcert Conversation of this week at The Philadelphia Orchestra. It was a great experience for me to give the talks and interact with so many thoughtful concertgoers. Many friends and members of the Dolce Suono Ensemble family attended, too, and it meant a lot that they were there.
