Syrinx Journey Day 356: “Syrinx” with Jacques Ibert

I couldn’t upload this video yesterday due to some internet connection problems but I filmed it in honor of Jacques Ibert’s birthday August 15. I preceded Syrinx with the opening of Ibert’s Concerto for flute and orchestra, one of the major flute concertos and one of my favorites to perform. The great French flutist Marcel Moyse premiered the concerto, written for him, in 1934, and my teacher Julius Baker gave its American premiere in 1948. It is amazing to think that my beloved mentor played this staple work of the repertoire when it was still new.
