Mimi performs Zhou Tian's flute concerto with the Youth Orchestras of San Antonio

I had a wonderful time performing with the YOSA Philharmonic and Troy Peters, conductor, in San Antonio! We gave the Texas première of Zhou Tian's Concerto for Flute and Orchestra" written for me and commissioned by a consortium of 7 American orchestras. I also performed Piazzolla's Libertango (arr. Kessler), in which I improvise on flute, piccolo, and alto flute. The musical talent and enthusiasm of the young musicians of YOSA was inspiring to experience, and I enjoyed the masterclasses and school visits as part of my stay. I was so inspired to hear from the orchestra members how much they loved performing Zhou Tian's concerto, especially because for many of them, it was one of their first experiences with new music. It was deeply rewarding making music with my fellow Curtis Institute of Music alumnus Troy Peters, fabulous conductor/composer/educator, and sharing stories about our student days.
